Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement from The Zoo Skatepark

Hello Zoo Members,

We just wanted to get in touch regarding the government’s announcement that we have now moved into the ‘delay’ phase for COVID-19, (Coronavirus).

The key message right now is that we are following the guidance from Government and from Sport England and Zoo will continue to run our regular weekday sessions, birthday parties and school holiday sessions until such point at which the guidance from the Government changes.

New Government guidelines state that anyone with a new, continuous cough, high temperature or fever must self-isolate for seven days. As a skater community we have to ensure we are also doing our bit to ensure the virus doesn’t spread any further, so here is what we are thinking:

  • From today, and until otherwise notified, we would ask that anyone displaying any of the following symptoms;

    • continuous cough,

    • high temperature; or

    • fever

should not attend any of the sessions at Zoo or visit the Zoo Skatepark site for a minimum of 14 days even if they seem to have recovered.

  • If you have been in contact with someone with coronavirus or have returned from an affected area identified by the Chief Medical Officer as high risk and you are feeling unwell with a cough, difficulty breathing or fever, stay at home and use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service or call NHS 111.

  • Wash your hands more often than usual, for 20 seconds using soap and hot water, particularly after coughing, sneezing and blowing your nose, or after being in public areas where other people are doing so. We have dedicated hand washing facilities in the cabin and toilet as well as hand sanitiser available in the cabin and skatepark and we would encourage you to use this on entry to the skatepark and at regular intervals throughout.

  • To reduce the spread of germs when you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or your sleeve (not your hands) if you don’t have a tissue, and throw the tissue away immediately. Then wash your hands or use a hand sanitising gel.

  • We are undertaking daily thorough cleans of the surfaces and hire equipment at Zoo but we have taken the decision not to offer hot food from the cabin for the time being in order to reduce the chances of contamination. Sealed cold drinks will continue to be sold from the shop but no open hot drinks will be available.

  • If any member starts to show any symptoms whilst at the skatepark, they will be asked to go home, for under 16’s, their emergency contact will be called to collect them.

Please rest assured, we will do everything we can to stay open and if we follow the above steps, we can protect our members, their families and the wider community through this testing time.

As a skating community, we should continue to be mindful of each other’s physical and mental wellbeing and look after ourselves and each other.
