1. Why do i need to have a membership to use The Zoo skatepark?
In order to ensure the safety and security of all visitors to The Zoo, we need to collect certain information about users and make sure everyone at The Zoo understands the rules of using the skatepark. Rather than asking you to fill out forms every time you visit the skatepark, we have introduced a membership system so we have your details on file. This means you can easily book on sessions just by logging in with your membership details. You can sign up to a membership here or if you have any questions, please get in touch.
2. Why is there a membership fee?
When we took over the running of the skatepark, The Zoo was in a very poor state of repair. We invested heavily in its refurbishment, and now need to ensure the quality of the park is maintained. We have introduced a small membership fee to contribute towards the upkeep of the skatepark, so it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
3. What types of membership are available?
We have standard memberships for £10, and enhanced memberships for £50, both of which last 1 year. Find out more about what is included in our memberships here.
Regular Session FAQs
1. When can I rollerblade/scoot/skate at the zoo?
We have regular sessions every week for each sport. You can see the full listings here.
2. What type of scooter can I use at The Zoo?
It is only safe to use stunt scooters at the skatepark. You cannot use these scooters at The Zoo:
3 wheel scooters
Children’s Toy Scooters
Off Road Scooters
Don’t have a stunt scooter? Don’t worry! You can hire a stunt scooter from the Zoo Shop at the skatepark.
2. Why have you changed the sessions at The Zoo which are available for my sport?
Previously, some sessions were quiet while others were very over-subscribed. We have now adjusted the sessions available for each sport so everyone has the best opportunity to use The Zoo. We are going to be looking at this regularly to make sure the session times continue to offer the best opportunities for everyone.
We will also be running one-off special events on top of the regular sessions so all sports can get some extra time in the skatepark. Got an idea for a special event? We'd love to hear about it so please get in touch.
3. Why have the session prices changed at The Zoo?
We have had to increase prices in order to maintain the sustainability of the skatepark.
The Zoo was previously run by volunteers. However, this wasn't sustainable and the skatepark was due to close for good in late 2017. We didn't want to see that happen so we took over the running of the skatepark in early 2018, and are passionate about keeping it open and thriving for years to come. In order to do this, we need to make sure the park is appropriately staffed to keep users and the skatepark safe, as well as continually investing in The Zoo to keep the quality of the park high so people keep coming back.
Pricing at The Zoo has been very carefully considered, and is in line with pricing at other Skateparks in Yorkshire.
Private Hire FAQs
1. Can I hire The Zoo?
Yes! The Zoo is available for private hire and Birthday parties. Find out more here.
2. Why have the private hire rates changed recently?
In order to ensure the safety of users who hire The Zoo, and to comply with health & safety and safeguarding laws, we have increased the staffing levels at all private hire events. This means you will get a better quality service at your event, but it has forced us to increase prices to cover the additional costs. Our pricing is inline with other private hire and Birthday party venues in York.
Shop and Cafe FAQs
1. Can I hire the cafe?
Yes! Sole use of the cafe is included in all private hire and birthday party hire packages for The Zoo skatepark. However, you can also hire just the cafe for a meeting or training session. Please get in touch to see how we can help.

We offer a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks, as well as The Zoo merchandise, and Skate Sports tools and equipment.
3. I don't want my child to buy energy drinks from The Zoo's cafe. What can I do?

If this is the case, please get in touch with us, providing your child's name and membership number, and we will ensure they are not sold energy drinks in our cafe.
